Parking is free for our Bed and Breakfast guests.
We are situated on the B4405 opposite St. Mary’s Church, Talyllyn. Our five letting rooms all overlook the magnificent sweeping slopes of Craig Goch mountainside. Each room is named after a local historical character from Talyllyn, a hand-made booklet in your room tells you their story.
All rooms are ensuite with showers except the Family room, which has a bath within a full size bathroom. They also have flat screen televisions, free WiFi and tea and coffee making facilities. Bed and Breakfast is provided from £125 per night per Double or Twin room. This rises to £150 at Bank Holidays and during the Summer Holidays. Our large Family Room sleeps between three and five people at £60 per person per night. Again, this goes up to £75 per person per night for Bed and Breakfast in the Summer Holidays.
All rooms can be accessed to the rear of the building via a ramp with a Car Park should ease of access be required.
Just a 15 minute drive North and you will be in Dolgellau on the slopes of the Cadair Idris mountain range. This pretty town has some lovely cafes and pubs and is popular with hill walkers and those accessing the popular Coed y Brenin visitor centre with its cycle trails. It is also famous for Clogau Gold which can still be found in the surrounding hill streams. Go South and you come to the historical market town of Machynlleth. The central clock tower can often be seen on Welsh postcards and Machynlleth was the Administrative Centre for Owain Glyndwr in the 13th Century. As such, it can be described as the Ancient Capital of Wales.
The Owain Glyndwr Centre is well worth a visit, as is the Blasau Deli for a bite to eat for lunch. To the West is the sea, and we are blessed with excellent sandy beaches such as Aberdyfi, Tywyn, Fairbourne and Barmouth. From the shore dolphins and porpoises can be seen swimming and little fishing boats set sail from Aberdyfi and Barmouth harbours. You can sample the local catch in seaside Eateries! Even more local sites of interest include Dolgoch Falls, Castell y Bere and Corris Craft Centre. Of particular note is the Talyllyn Railway, which was the first old Narrow Gauge Railway to be restored. Whereas it once carried quarried slate to the coast, the line now brings passengers to Abergynolwyn and beyond, coming within two miles of Talyllyn! It is a beautiful train journey up the Dysynni Valley that makes a great day out whatever the weather!
There are many local services and Sites of Interest within this ten-mile radius. A little further to the North is the Italianate village of Portmeirion, and Aberystwyth to the South is a larger town with many shops as well as a Seaside Promenade and Pier. Don’t worry if you are unsure of how to make the best of your visit: whether you have a taste for mountain walking, hidden castles, waterfalls or beautiful beaches, we will be delighted to put you on the right track.
Nature lovers can look out for Otters and Pine Martens, Osprey and Red Kite. All are seen around the lake. For aircraft enthusiasts we have a great view of the jets and other military planes on the "Mach Loop". During weekdays, you may be treated to the site of F - 15's, Typhoons and huge transporter aircraft, which can be quite spectacular within our narrow valley. There are nearby vantage points, on Bwlch Llyn Bach for example, where the pilots wave to the photographers! And greatest of all, the mighty Cadair Idris, the highest mountain peak in the south of Eryri (Snowdonia). Fine views and legends of old await you here!
